Pet Custom Figurines: From One Photo to a Desk Keepsake

A customer sent us one phone photo of her 14-year-old lab mix, taken on the kitchen floor: one ear folded forward, grey muzzle, the ragged stuffed duck he had carried around for a decade. Her note read, I know it isn't a good photo, but it's the only one where he looks like himself. Six weeks later the dog sits on her desk, folded ear, grey muzzle and duck included. That is what pet custom figurines are actually for. Not decoration. A way to keep an animal you cannot replace within arm's reach while you answer email.

Here is how that happens at PrinYou, from the photo you send to the piece that lands on your desk.

What one photo has to give us

We model from photographs, not from a 3D scan, so what matters is information rather than sharpness. A slightly soft phone picture from years ago often tells us more than a crisp shot where the dog is looking away from the camera.

If you can send more than one image, this set covers nearly every case: one front view with both eyes visible, one full side profile from nose to tail, one three-quarter view, and one close-up of the face markings. Add anything that shows the tail and hind legs. Cats are easier than people expect if you can get a side view where the stripe pattern is not compressed into shadow.

What we cannot recover is information that exists in no photograph. If a patch of coat never appears in any shot, we reconstruct it in the most plausible way and tell you which parts were interpreted. We do not invent spots, and we would rather ask than guess on a marking you would notice every day.

Decide early whether the collar, bandana or favourite toy stays in. Removing a collar from the model is simple. Adding one that was never photographed means guessing at the buckle and width, which rarely matches the real thing.

The two processes are separate, and that changes what you get

We offer two distinct ways to make a pet figurine, and they are not two versions of the same thing.

Full-color direct printing puts the colour into the print itself. It is the stronger choice for brindle, tabby stripes, merle coats, spotted patterns and the grey-to-black gradient on an old muzzle, because the transitions are printed rather than brushed. If the thing you love about your animal is the coat pattern, start here.

Single-color printing plus hand painting is a different route: the piece is printed in one base tone, then painters build the colour by hand. People pick it when they want a cleaner, more stylised look, a palette matched to a room, or a statue-like feel rather than a photograph in three dimensions. It also holds up better on very small pieces, where printed gradients tend to go muddy.

The matte sandstone texture is our standard finish either way. It has a fine grain and no gloss, which matters more than it sounds: a shiny figurine on a desk throws the reflection of your monitor back at you all day. Matte stays readable under office lighting and does not fingerprint.

Where these pieces actually end up

Most of what we ship in this line is a desk or shelf piece, not a display-case object. Customers place them next to a monitor, on a bookshelf at eye level, or on a bedside table. Tell us the depth of the shelf and we will size the piece to it, and tell us if it will be handled by children, because that changes how we treat thin details like tails, ears and whiskers.

Pets are one of our four product lines alongside people, couples and families, and wedding cake topper keepsake figurines. The same modelling and painting workflow covers all of them, so a pet ordered alongside a family piece will match in finish and tone. You can see how other customers styled theirs in our custom showcase.

Timeline, and what ordering one unit looks like

Two numbers govern the schedule. The digital preview takes 3-5 business days, and production takes 7-10 business days after you approve that preview. We always quote a range rather than a fixed day count, because modelling time depends on how much of the animal has to be reconstructed from limited photos.

The preview is the point where you still have control. You see the model from several angles and can ask for changes to pose, expression, base or colour before anything is produced. Approving quickly is the single biggest thing you can do to keep the total under three weeks.

MOQ is 1. You can order a single pet figurine for yourself. PrinYou runs as a B2B white-label manufacturing and cross-border dropshipping operation, which is why the same workflow scales to shops and resellers, but it also means a one-piece order goes through exactly the same modelling, preview and painting steps as a bulk run. Studios and gift brands usually come in through our white-label and dropship program.

Shipping time depends on the destination and the service you choose, so we quote it per order rather than publishing a flat number. We do not quote landed cost or duty as a fixed figure for the same reason.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can you make a pet figurine from just one photo?

Yes, if the photo shows the animal's face and most of its body in reasonable light. One usable image is the most common starting point we receive. More photos let us confirm markings, coat transitions and tail shape instead of interpreting them, so send three to five if you have them.

What is the difference between full-color direct printing and single-color printing plus hand painting?

Full-color direct printing produces the colour as part of the print, which suits complex coat patterns and soft gradients. Single-color printing plus hand painting means one base tone printed first, then hand-applied colour, which suits a stylised look, a matched palette, or very small pieces. They are two separate processes, not two quality levels of the same process.

How long does a custom pet figurine take to make?

The digital preview takes 3-5 business days and production takes 7-10 business days after you approve the preview. Revisions during the preview stage add time, so approve as soon as the model looks right.

Is the finish shiny or matte?

Matte. The standard finish has a fine sandstone texture with no gloss, which keeps the piece readable under desk and office lighting and avoids the glare a glossy surface produces next to a screen.
